The Wall and The Chimney as a Consolation Prize

So the goal today didn't actually happen. We dropped off the kids at school and headed south to Colorado Springs. Up the Pikes Peak Highway we went. We got to the summit and as there had been a lenticular cloud over the Front Range all morning. Our goal, the Y Couloir was super firm. I climbed down the ridge above the couloir and peered down into it and there were a couple snowboarders making their way ever so slowly. This route didn't look like very much fun. So time for some lunch.

We then drove down the mountain thinking that Glen Cove would be a good option. On the way we decided to have a look at The Wall. I tossed a rock down into it and it was soft. Lets ski this. We couldn't see if it went through or not but at about 45 degrees steepness that wasn't really an issue. This 1800 line was super fun and the snow was great. I love the Pikes zone for the beautiful granite towers that work their way around the mountains flanks. After our ski we headed back up the boot pack leading to the road and our truck parked at the top of the line.

From there we headed down the mountain a short distance and parked again.... More words and pics here: Pikes Peak - The Wall and The Chimney @ Glen Cove - 5/6/2014
