 First 14er

Well my 14 year old sister and I have completed out first 14er. I'll do it again. We started on the trail at 5:30 am with it being 43 degrees. It was a nice morning. It took 3 hours to get to the top. I took my time. I thought climbing the boulders at the very end was the easiest. On the way up we saw a mountain goat. Cute little thing. Everyone was nice and polite. Everyone is there for the same get to the top. We spent about an hour at the top, talking, eating and looking at the gorgeous view. We made it down in an hour and 45 minutes. That was fast compared to taking 3 hours to the top. We didn't have to stop and rest. We did stop once to take a drink and our legs shook like crazy. (by the way, my legs were really sore on Monday) When we reached the bottom we were able to see Mr and Mrs. Moose. I've never seen a moose in person. The bull moose had a huge rack.

It was a fun trip. Next year I would like to do 3 14ers. Any suggestions? Guess I should start getting into shape. My goal was to hike my first 14er and I did it. That I am proud of. On the way up I thought about turning around and not finishing but I knew I had to finish. It wasn't so bad. It was fun to see all of the dogs up there and shoot, we even saw some little kids. Those kids are awesome!!

Great Job !! Suggestions for other 14ers- Gray and Torrey, Mt Evans ( from Summit Lake) , Huron. These are the ” easier” 14ers. Good luck !

good work! you should do Democrat, Lincoln, Bross, and Cameron they are a lot like Bierstadt but you can do all 4 in one day.

Great suggestion. I'll start reading about those. It would be nice to do 4 in a day. I could do those after I do Gray and Torrey. That for sure would put me over my 3 for next year. Better start preparing now, so I can be ready for next year.

I would love to go again before winter settles in. With work and kids it's not possible. I need to start taking them on hikes and then they can start doing 14ers with me when they get older. I've made my goals for next summer. I'll just start working toward that and getting into great shape. Enjoy the hike.

Does anyone know if the trail is still hike-able after the storm? Planning on hiking it tomorrow and would hate to get up there and it be closed or unsafe.

I”m not sure if the trail will be hike-able but i would suggest if there is a greater chance than 50% of rain not to go just be on the safe side.
