 Getting another rare descent

Back in April of ’94 I headed out for a long hike in the hills. I ended up summiting Hoosier Ridge, Red Peak, Red Mountain and almost got Silverheels too, I turned around at the ridge as it was getting dark. On Hoosier Ridge I got my first look at Silverheels North Face. I’ve wanted it ever since. For some reason this line doesn’t get enough snow for a descent very often. With the big upslopes that we’ve been getting I figured that it might be in for a ski. When we skied Lincoln the other day I got a pretty good look at the summit line and that looked pretty filled in. I was hoping the steeper line to the east of the summit was in too.

We headed up from Hoosier Pass at the very early hour of 9am and made decent time to the summit. Silverheels is a little bit of a pain to get to as you have to descend into a valley or along a ridge to get to the North Ridge for the ascent. We hit the ridge and skied with our skins on to the base of the ascent. Then we headed up the North Ridge to the summit. Once at the top we headed over to the steeper line and checked it out. It was in!!! More words and pics at http://makingturns.com/?p=2454

Thanks for a great day Bloomie

That looks pretty sweet.
You must have hit that peak on a rare day when the wind isn't blowing fifty mph. I have skied the north side a couple times but didn't realize that coulior was there. The south side has been on my list for quite a few years. Things may work out this year.

Fritz - Great tour, we'll find more fun this goofy spring.
GR - The south side is in too, from the summit to boot.
