 Quandary on Quandary

A friend and I hit up the east face of Quandary yesterday. It was our first winter 14er so we prepared well. It didn't take more than 30mins to figure out we were quite over prepared. The conditions were absolutely terrific. Certainly no snow shoes needed, though we found yaktrax/ cramp-ons to be quite useful especially on the descent. By 12,500 ft we had stripped all layers and were hiking with no shirt (sports bra for her). It was such a beautiful day and rather easy hike. We met a heard of 10 mountain goats Image

, who seemed more curious than skiddish.

The trail is nearly all hard pack Image
Packed trail
from base to peak with exception of only a few spots of a hundred yards or so. It is definitely ski-able right now and safe snow. Though it is pretty wind-blown and on the harder side. Wish i would have brought my snowboard.

Nice shot of the Goats! I have a nice history with those guys, they might be most tamed herd in the Rockies. Last summer they climbed all over my car when I parked at the dam!

Awesome goats! Trying to hit this one up this weekend, just wondering what was your round trip time? Trying to determine an ETA at trailhead. Thanks!

griff410- We were rather methodical both up and down because it was such a beautiful day... but start time 1000 and peak at 1:40. Stayed at the top for quite a while and hung out with the goats for a while too so didnt get down till almost 5p. I would say a mediocre hiker could do 3 1/2 hours up 1:45 down.
