 The Young and the "Reckless"

Sometimes I wonder why I climb. It seems like such a selfish dangerous task sometimes. I could be going to college chasing a career or chasing girls. Instead I choose what some consider a selfish poor lifestyle where all I seem to care about is the next big climb. From a couple close friends dying in the mountains to close encounters of my own. Yet, I still keep doing it no matter what obstacles come in my way. Every once in a while though, you get a climb that really does remind you why you push yourself. Danger can be a matter of perspective sometimes.

It's days like these that remind me why I do what I do. Progress is what I currently live for. Without it, I am dull. With it, life simply can't get any better. Maybe I'm obsessed but it's been a strong obsession for the last 7 years. I just keep on going back no matter what struggles or fears I encounter.

Climbing is about the journey and growth. The journey you make in life with friends. In the end, it's not about what I did in this life, but about the lasting impact I made on others.

For me, this is what I live for. My best day I've ever had on a summit I seem to hold sacred, Longs Peak. It was more then just a climb for me. More of me trying to find my way through life doing what I love.
