 Lake City with my Girls

A TR seems like overkill but I wanted to post these pics!

My older daughter, Linda, is not into hiking, especially peak bagging! But, the counselors at Camp Redcloud (a christian camp near Lake City) coaxed her to the top of Mt. Redcloud and she was thrilled to tell me she'd made it! A few days later, she and I hiked Uncompahgre together. We were first on the trail and last off the mountain, but we made it while more fit hikers gave up, proving either its all mental or we are mental.

With a Werther's to energize her, anything is possible!

We made it! Linda and Steve on the summit of Uncompahgre.

If you make me do this again, I'll rip your head off!

It's easier to go down!

Alise and I spent the week of her 13th birthday climbing 14ers near Lake City while Linda was at camp. Alise is much more into summiting peaks and we had a great time. We climbed San Luis, Redcloud and Sunshine. Then she suggested sunrise summits of Uncompahgre and Wetterhorn (Daddy made her wear the harness).

Snow equals winter, right? What's August got to do with it? Descending Uncompahgre after a sunrise summit.

Now you've done it...     2012-09-28 13:41:21
You obviously forgot to tell Linda that this stuff is _addictive!_
But: Congrats to her for persevering & getting started,
Congrats to Alise for pursuing those ultra-cool sunrise summits. (But, really, the rope & harness weren't necessary...) And, Congrats to _you_ for being such a great dad!

Nicely done     2012-09-29 09:51:35
Some of my best memories are from climbing with my dad when I was young. Keep it up! You are making memories for your girls that will last a lifetime.

You're not making her do winter 14ers, are you     2012-09-29 21:54:50
Beautiful photos, heart-warming story - this TR has it all. Hearing about it was great, but reading the report and seeing the photos fills it all in. Great write-up, Steve.

You and the kids will treasure these photos for a long time to come.

It's nice to see the kids in one of your trip reports. You have a couple of beautiful girls, there, Dad!

Great to see Linda enjoying Uncompahgre with you (love the summit Werther's shot!). Looks like you and Alise had an amazing birthday week. I'm glad to see you had such great times with your girls. I wish I hadn't been out of state and could have met up with you and Alise again. I really enjoyed hiking with her on Tab this past spring.

Very Cool     2012-10-06 10:56:15
It is very cool that you have the opportunity to hike with your children. The day you were on Longs recently for another member's finisher I was hiking Twin Sisters with my oldest son just before he moved to FL. It was a very special time that I won't soon forget. Congrats to you and your daughters on the summits! I'm sure you won't soon forget them either.
