 Bike my way up

Wanted to share our trip to Mt Evans this past weekend. Differance is this time we biked to the summit (1st time for me to do this) My friend Carlos is an avid bike rider. This guy will put in 70miles one day and get up the next day and put in another 70miles.

He had never been up to 14K feet to I told him, well why dont we just ride to the top of Mt Evans? It shoudl be fun I said............. Lol. At first I had told him well we can park at summit Lake and bike 4 miles up to the top parking lot. When I told him 4 miles he just laughed. So then I said, ok lets start from Echo Lake and make it a 30 mile Round trip. He seemed to like that idea a little more.

We met up at Idaho Springs at 6am and had some breakfast. We started peddaling at 7:30am

It was a bit chilly, around 40 degrees when we started heading up but once the sun came out it was very nice.

Finally getting a view of our goal, first thing I thought was ... Holy Crap is that snow?

The 1st part of the trip was done. We had done the 1st 9 miles up to Sumit Lake.... Only 5 more miles to go, should be easy right? I wont lie that last mile kicked my @$$ !!

More views from the road to Summit Lake.

Only 3 miles to go!

Carlos getting to the summit Parking lot

Woo Hoo made it !!

Views from the summit

After busting @$$ for 4hrs on the all uphill road we some 14er.com people celebrating getting all the 14ers done. Good to see you guys there and get some Champage in.

After we rested for about 30 minutes we headed back down..... Ohh man it was so amazing! 15miles of pure downhill. I could see the hate of people walking down the mountain when I was just cruising down in my bike at moments not even holding the handlebars, just sitting there enjoying the views.... Lol

Got to Summit Lake in 20min and down to Echo in 1hr

It is a very nice trip up on a bike. We did the same about 3 years ago, also on a mountain bike. Unfortunately I did not have a camera and could not post any pictures. Glad you reported it, congratulations guys! makes me want to do it again...

I love how I don‘t see cars in any of your pictures! I also like all of the smiles in your photos

A huge thanks for the MOTIVATION this TR brought this afternoon to jump on Fernando (my road bike) and ride toward NCAR. The flatirons cheered me on up the hill - with deer smiling along the way. Perfect way to end a Tuesday.

Congratulations to you both!

Not a ”climbing report”, but a fun report to read thru, nice pics. I've always wondered how this bike trip would be.

You know I actually think I had it easier in the Mountain bike then my buddy in his race bike. From what I could notice I had more gears then he did which helped a lot during the trip, not to mention on the way down they were all worried about cracking their bikes in half on pot holes so they everyone was braking constantly. I was just cruising and jumping over things. And YES everyone should give this Mt a try on a bike at least once. The down hill was by far The best part of the trip hehehe... Nice to meet you up there Cheeseburglar and the rest of the gang.

Both times on my road bike, and it's a friggin' blast. And it's an HC climb so definitely counts as a ”climb.”

Glad you had a good time, the Mt Evans road is a great place to ride.
