 Thunder Pyramid Standard

No camp sites available on the bent tree side of the stream, but we found nice accommodation on the other side. Walked up hill on the main trail in search of the cairn marking the start of the trail to Thunder, obviously didn't walk far enough as we never saw it, so we made our own route the next am. The willows have grown significantly since the picture of the cairn that is presently on line, the cairn has shrunk, we beefed it up a little when we finally found it on our way down. We didn't climb up the loose rock, standard, in the first gully after exiting the willows but choose the class 3 option to the left (see picture), that was fun on the way up, we choose to rock surf the gully on the way down. There are cairns here and there marking the route up the mountain, most are difficult to spot. We crossed back and forth between the ridge climbers rt of the white gully and the gully itself for most of the climb. We exited the white gully as recommended high up on the mountain, keeping it to our left as we neared the top. Image #3 on the Maverick_Manley report, shows what I fondly called the refrigerator, keeping that to our right on the up climb, helped us know we were on the right ridge. We did come across a narrow section of snow in one area, easy to avoid, glad our crampons stayed at home. The rock once we reached the ridge line was much more solid than we expected. The route we chose, helped occasionally by some well placed cairns (we added more) had us either on the top of the ridge or on its left. We didn't make any exciting moves on our way to the top, one little leap but on to pretty solid rock and that was about it. The ridge is narrow but again the rock isn't bad. A longer day than we what was little mileage. A fun climb.GOOD LUCK. Link below has the gps info for our climb. (I can't take credit for that).

text too small     2012-07-13 12:17:44
On your photos I think there's good text there but it's too small to read. Any links to some larger photos would be helpful.
