We had arrived in Silverthorne only two days earlier and were looking for a good introductory climb to give some Fourteener newbie’s a glimpse into the world of climbing a Fourteener. In addition, Tim and I needed to add Evans to our Fourteener checklist.
We had a large group consisting of my family from TX (Joy, Reilly, Kylee and Kody), Bill and Kay (KS/CO), Mike and Diane (CO), Kim and Whitney (KS/TX), Tim and his crew (Madison, Lauren, Meredith and Dalton) from AR as well as Tom and Wendy from CO. A few of us had done multiple Fourteeners but for many this was to be their first. Evans provided just the right challenge.
We started at the Summit Lake trailhead around 8:00 AM and were on top in just over an hour. There was about a 1/2 mile on the Mt. Evans Road followed by about 1.5 miles of trail to the top. Nice trail all the way and again a great opportunity and experience for all.
We stopped at Beau Jo's for pizza in Idaho Springs, always a popular spot, especially on a Sunday afternoon.
All of us at Summit Lake, pre hike
Mike working his way up an early section of the trail.
A few of the group are getting close.
The Smith's, Whitney and Tim on the summit.
Kody's first Fourteener with three more to come the next day.
Kylee's 3rd Fourteener.
Nice view from the summit.
