I was last there in the winter of 98 and the memories are still with me. We didn't take skis, which I regret, but what an amazing slice of wilderness. Well done.

That 2nd to last photo is the Island Lake Basin w/ Fremont Peak on the right. When I need to go to my ”happy place” in a stressful/loud environment, that's exactly where I go!

Planning to head up there in about a week, but approaching from the east. I'm curious--how sketchy was the final ridge to the summit?

What are the stats on the climb (RT mileage and vert)?? Is the approach that long that it normally takes 2 days??

Looks like a fun outing!!

for the comments everyone.

Regarding stats, I think it's about 20 miles one way from car (at Elkhart Park TH) to summit. Not sure on total vertical though, probably between 9,000 and 10,000 ft. I think most people take at 2-3 days on the approach, but it can definitely be done in one day, especially without snow.

ChrisinAZ - The final ridge is not bad, it looks more intimidating than it really is when viewed from Bonney Pass. The ridge is wider and flatter than it appears, and never gets knife-edgy or too narrow, though it is quite exposed on both sides.

My daughter and I backpacked the Winds in August '09 from Green River lakes to Titcomb Basin and back out to Elkhart. Great memories and spectacular and remote scenery! I want to go back...
