Elbert - Northeast Ridge |
So my dad and I got up around 4:30 A.M. and drove down to Lead ville and got to the Elbert trailhead around 5:30. The trail was clear of snow and going up was great except for the fact that I had a bad pair of socks to go hiking in so I had a pretty good blister early on so it kinda hurt but I pushed on anyway and ignored it. We hit tree line early on and it had some rewarding views. We had yet to see glimpse of snow on the ground even at tree line and we wouldn't until much further up. We later learned that there was an expedition of around 60 people going up around 30 minutes behind us so we hauled it up there this was not fun considering that we were even going relatively fast through the steep sections. Luckily there was no snow on the trail for most of the route and we didn't see snow until the final summit pitch and this snow was mostly avoidable. We stayed ahead of the crowds and made it to the summit and made the climb back down. The weather cooperated through the whole hike and overall it was a great day on Elbert and I'd love to do Elbert again in the near future.
