We were going to do Elbert but we decided to do Cameron. We also got as close to the top of Bross as you can do legally. So I also counted that one.
We were sleeping at Kite Lake when, around 11 at night, my mom saw a 200 lb. marmot (a.k.a. black bear) in the parking lot. When it left, we heard what sounded like another bear sniffing the side of the truck. Since we were the only ones up at Kite Lake, my mom panicked and woke me. We then got a hotel room at the Riverside Inn in Fairplay. We started climbing at 8:25 the next morning.
It was a nice hike until the saddle. The higher we went, the stronger the wind got. We summited "Cameron," But it turns out it was just a hump. On top of Cameron, We took a picture and started down. We took the Bross Bypass trail back down. The map claims it is a class 1, but it seems like class 2+ at some points, Mostly class 2, however. We got back down at 12:31. A good four hours that seems like 8 hours. This makes 10 different summits and Bross. Good for an 11 year old.

I'm jealous I haven't encounter a bear like that yet. I like your pictures! When I hiked those peaks in 2007, I remember I had difficulty to find the actual summit of Cameron because it's so flat. I agree, down from Bross, the scree is pretty slippery, I'd also say class 2 but wait for the infamous scree of Columbia .
Hey, my college kids are taking me hiking in August. They want to do the decalibron combo. I'm an 47 yo flatlander, do you think I'll make it? Are there pretty good places to pitch a tent at kite lake?
