 Quandry- south face mix up

Quandary Peak Aka Unknown Couloir Adventure

Yehawww here we go early morning, great weather, and joined by 2 of my best buds! Started at the winter east ridge trail head what is about 400 or 500 yards away from the summer trail head. Started at 430, when we got there there was already 5 cars and it looked like 2 or 3 of them spent the night. We got are stuff ready and started to hike. I don't recommend this but if you are confident we left in running snows and had are boots and skies on are back. We hiked all the way up in running shoes no problem. Below treeline there is a easy trail to follow and its mixed hard packed down snow and dirt. Only trouble is that every now and then we would catch a tree branch or to with are skis and almost fall over back words.

Got to treeline before the sun was even up

Staying on top of the hard snow with just running shoes and it wasnt to steep enough to scare us and need more traction.

As you can see not alot of snow in the tenmile range this year but some people still pick there way off the summit on skis and snow boards

Thought we were going to ski Cristo couloir but decided that this one looked more interesting and challenging

This is where it got veryyyy interesting we new that these couloirs rocked out, but we did not know how bad. sooo when you get to the narrowest part of the couloir you can go left(this would have been the right path to take for it just slowly stopped in some grassy ledges wat you could easly hike down) go straight like us for a real adventure or go right ( walk down some grass into the lower part of the couloir)

Not to bad at first just some really steep grass that drops off to a 20 foot water fall hahah
Image
Then the reall fun a class 3 or 4 down climb IN SKI BOOTS sooo it made it feel like class 5 hahah
Image
After this little crazy scramble we were able to put on the skis again and ski some really nice steep snow all the way down to the bottomImage
where we were able to take off are boots again and walk out on the blue lakes road!!!! mostly dirt but in the shaddy parts the snow is still deep
