 Huron Peak Loop

10 miles
4500 feet +/-
7 1/2 hours with approximately 1 hour spent on peaks and hiking up Pt. 13,518
trail packed by others (thank you) worth a few hours

Unnamed 13,462 a Tri-Centennial ranked at 280

Browns Peak and Middle Mountain B unranked

...filling out the grid... haha (only another 560 or so to go)

Winter 14er

I noticed climbingbiz had posted a report on their attempt to get to the top of Huron and also that Furthermore and Pete had gone down there too so I figured why not benefit from their efforts and a packed trail.

I was able to drive approximately 0.4 tenths of a mile up the road past the 2wd parking

I really was looking at picking up a 13er but decided a packed trail would be better than breaking trail up to Middle Mountain B and then over to 13,462. It added 2 plus miles and another 800 feet but it also added a winter 14er.

It turned out that there was some of the side road off of 390 packed (you can see that going up to the Huron TH) as I came down from Middle Mountain B and that helped also although the top half in the trees was blown in but got better the farther I dropped down.

Congratulations, well done.     2012-01-07 10:57:03
I am always impressed with anyone that ventures alone on remote peaks in the winter. Well done. Looks your dog had a good time as well!

Great weather!     2012-01-07 21:03:27
I and Silverlynx were the other two people up there on Huron yesterday. We were wondering who you were! Amazing that snowshoes weren't needed whatsoever. Didn't even feel like winter!

I like your b&w's, dog included. ;)
The whole area looked much different today. Kind of like b&w -- with all the blowing snow!

So that's what it looks like!     2012-01-09 08:40:08
Thanks for posting, great pictures! We were up with a nice group on Saturday, but didn't really have any views with all the new and blowing snow. Still was a nice day, and we were glad to take advantage of the open road.

timing is everything...     2012-01-09 10:54:33
I have had days like that too like the day I was on Marble back a year or two ago. There was supposed to be fantastic views of the Crestones and I could not see 50 feet but then there are many days like last Friday where it is perfect.
