 MT. Bierstadt- Guanella pass

After pondering a climb in November, the weather just seemed too nice not to go. Leaving the truck at home, I headed up to Guanella pass in a Honda Civic. A pleasent ride after leaving Denver, I-70 was clear to Georgtown. I'll try to get across to anyone interested how windy it was on the mountain.VERY! Pictures dont seem to show that. Keep in mind these photos were taken Wednesday November 1st BEFORE the storm moved in Wednesday night. I'm sure road conditions would warrant a 4WD now.
Of all the times I've climbed Bierstadt, this is the only time I met or saw not another person on the mountain. Usually crowded, this may be a good time for a hike if you dont care for a lot of people.
All in all a nice hike but the wind on the summit was whipping. I didn't even stay to have a snack, I descended to the ridge for that. Over to the west, I could see the storm front headed my way. A good time to scoot down.
In the summer, I can make this roundtrip in 4 hours or so. Today took me 6 1/2 & I felt lucky with that.

I didn't take any snowshoes this trip. My Vasque Hikers kept me toasty & dry. But there will soon be enough snow to take my ”rock skis” & avoid the walk down.

Very nice images. It really shows what the conditions were like...except for the snow!

Thanks!
