 Sunrise Slam and PBRs

So with the mixed reports of county rd 8 being under construction I decided I was going to play it safe and try to race the toothless hillbilly construction crew to the 7am mark. Plus it had been a while since I had done a Sunrise Summit so that was enough to get me to grab my stuff at 1030pm and hit the road. Needless to say night hiking always takes longer for obvious reasons and I did not make it. More on that later.

I arrived at the trail head in my ever so rugged and off road chevy malibu (I had no issues getting up there and it took me about 25 mins for that 6 miles. but it is a little rough on a 2WD sedan) at about 140am. After trying to catch a few Z's I decided it was time to round up my stuff and head out.

I hit the trail at 250am and start my way up Mt. Democrat.

Hittin' the Trail!
Overall an easy hike with a few patches of snow. When I hit the saddle the wind picked up and it got cold. I was on the summit by 430am and only hung out a few minutes to check out the cloudless sky.

I scurried down Dem and headed for Cameron. Again there was a little snow but most of it was avoidable and even if you cant avoid it there is nothing to worry about. I reached the Summit at the very first light. It was freezing and windy but I couldn't have cared less. I was stoked! I decided to head for Lincoln before the sun actually came up for pictures and to hopefully dodge the wind. There is a decent amount of snow on the trail leading up to Lincoln but alas nothing requiring gear.

Once on Lincoln I realized there was no way I was going to make it up Bross and back to the TH before 7 so I enjoyed the sunrise, a PB and Nutella sandwich, and of course a nice ice cold PBR!

I then hustled up Bross, which is more like a hill than a peak, snapped a few pics and left.

On my way down I ended up taking the gulley by accident. It seems like there are a few trails and from what it looked like once i was scrambling down is that i should have stayed high. The gulley really wasn't too bad though. That is if your up for a little human bob sledding on rocks.

Human Bobsledding!

I made it back to the trail head by 945am and I was feeling great! There is something about sunrise summits that I can't even put into words. So back into my trusty malibu i went and i was gone! Only to come inching up on 2 back hoes and various other construction vehicles tearing the road a new one.

Stupid Construction!
I tried getting the attention of one driver but he refused to make eye contact or even acknowledge that i was inches from getting my foot reconstructed by his car size tire. I finally got to the boss man and tried to get him to move the machines and let me through (keep in mind it was only 1015am by this point, and I wasn't to keen on the idea of spending 8 hours in Alma). He sternly told me that this was my problem and that it wasn't going to be open until 7pm. He then told me there was another way out but then quickly pointed out while laughing that it would rip the bottom off of my car. But its hard to take offense from anyone with only 5 teeth. On the bright side I was only a mile walk from town and "Almas Only Bar" had ice cold $2 PBRs.

I agree CinciKid.....I wish he wouldn't have gone on to Bross plus advertise it. Every time someone goes up there it deters the owners from offically opening it.
