 Mt. Sherman - Iowa Gulch

With three days and Harvard, Missouri and Belford/Oxford now behind us it was on to Sherman for our final day and for a much easier hike/climb. Several of us already had done Sherman but from the Fairplay side. With a shorter day ahead of us we didn't leave the Leadville Hostel until 7:30 AM and were on the trail by 8:30 AM.

This was to be our fist approach from the west or Leadville side. It seemed a bit more difficult only because of the rocks at the beginning compared to the jeep road beginning from the Fairplay side. There was some wind up on the ridge but otherwise an uneventful day. Being a Saturday there were lots of folks on the mountain, most of them coming the standard route from Fourmile Creek. We were back at trailhead by 12:30, in time to enjoy some Dale's Pale Ale and Modus Hoperandi.

Subway in Leadville for lunch followed by a relaxing afternoon in Leadville. We celebrated our trip with dinner at The Grill, another of our favorite Leadville eateries. At dinner we discussed plans for 2012, a possible return trip to the Sawatch to bag our last few remaining summits.
