 Missouri - Rock Chalk!

On Wednesday, September 7 we had climbed Harvard, not a hard nor a really technical climb, but a very long day - 13.5 miles and almost 10 hours on the trail. After completing Harvard we drove to Leadville where we stayed at the Leadville Hostel, a favorite of ours, with dinner that night at the Tennessee Pass Cafe, another big favorite of the group.

On Thursday, Stu, Bill, Greg and I were up at around 5 AM and at the Missouri Gulch Trailhead by 7 AM. We had our backpacks with us and hiked in to the old dilapidated cabin near treeline where we dropped our packs. We were on the trail, headed to the Missouri summit by around 9 AM. It was a fairly uneventful hike/climb and very quite as we only saw two other climbers on the final ridge approach. The climb up to the ridge was fairly steep but otherwise Missouri was a fun mountain and the ridge portion was very entertaining. Being a Kansas Jayhawk I was extremely pleased to have summitted and "conquered" Missouri.

We were back at camp by around 4 PM where we set up our tents, got a great fire going and had dinner. A rainstorm put us to bed by 6:30 PM. Tim had arrived ahead of us from the trailhead and had filtered water and got the camp ready for the evening.

On to Belford/Oxford the next day!
