 2nd Fourteener Squared

After a hot summer with too much going on, the now fearless five year olds were back for their second Fourteener-Mt Sherman. The troops packed up into Blanca and headed for the mountains.
Goin down the road.

We voyaged north and were rewarded with the sun setting behind some peaks and clouds.

After dinner, we popped the top very near the trail head and tried to get some sleep. The kiddos were giddy and a little crazy sleeping in the top bunk together. We got up and prepared to go face to face with the Mother Goddess Mt. Sherman.
Can we go back to sleep?

Chasing the sun.

After a few breaks and chatting with many friendly hikers on the trail, we finally got on to the ridge and the smiles increased.
Ridge running.

With a surge of energy, the little climbers cruised up the ridge to the top of the mountain, along with 83 of our new best friends. As always, save the Nerds for the summit!
Nerds on the summit.

Time to head back down to civilization.
Properly equipped.

Nearing the trailhead, the fearless marauders battled scree and boulders larger than them for safe passage.
How many rocks are there on this mountain?

Packed it up and headed to "The Grill" for dinner. This place has been here forever and has awesome Mexican food.
We are going to make it.

Another addict spotted in parking lot.

After refueling and stretching out, the fearless peak enthusiasts were ready for some down time.
Another successful day.

Great times with the kiddos, huh? I have a pic just like your last one of my kids after hiking Sherman from Iowa Gulch. (My kids a quite a bit bigger than yours though.)

Good for you getting the kids out and about. My 4 year old fell in love with backcountry camping this summer as well.

What a great final photo! They don't know how lucky they are to start this camping and hiking routine so early in life (I didn't start until I was 21 ). Thanks for posting. Look forward to more. Happy trails!

The Nerds summit photo is so incredibly cute!

So cool to see a family getting out and enjoying the outdoors together. This is without a doubt the most enjoyable Sherman TR I've ever read... thanks for posting!
