 Mosquito Slam

Me and my brother headed up to Kite Lake road on Tuesday afternoon from Co Springs. The only glitch on the way there was a speeding ticket in Fairplay. Ugh! But we set up camp along the road near treeline before the fee area. We're cheap. We hit the sack at like 9:30 and woke up at 4:15 on Wed. to a great night sky, full of stars. We were on the trail at 5:00. We were the first ones. After heading up in the dark, we got to Democrat's summit at 6:15 to a great view of the surrounding peaks as the sun rose.

After a short time on the summit we pressed on to Cameron, which we got to at 6:45, and Lincoln, at 7:15.

. It was pretty windy on Lincoln's summit, but not too bad. The long flat hike to Bross took until 8:00 after a short time on Lincoln's top. we took a long break on there.

Then, the loose gravel hike back down to Kite Lake. This took until about 9:15.

Then we packed up the car and drove to Sherman. We had to park at the Leavick townsite, about 2 miles lower than the main parking spot near the Dauntless mine, at 10:30 Oh well, more elevation gain We went fast though, getting to Dauntless within an hour, and the flat spot above the Hilltop mine at 12:00.

We thought we were a little late, but many other people were heading up as well. Then we headed up the long ridge(which was extremely windy) and summited at 12:30.

There were a couple groups up there and we headed down at around 1:00. After the ridge the wind died down and it was an enjoyable hike down, and we explored the mines and old mine buildings.

Long day, but worth it.

Way to get them all in one day! I was probably on top of Buckskin when you took photo #6- the peak on the very left, I think.
