 DemCamLinBro from Kite Lake

A great climb to do right now if you want to catch the tail end of wildflower season. I was quite surprised by the selection of flowers the Kite Lake area had to offer. This is definitely the beginning of the end of the season for these little guys but you won't be disappointed if you get up there this week.

As reported elsewhere, the road to the Kite Lake trail head is just fine. My Honda Civic made it no problems. There still is some snow on those peaks so there is still a lot of water around. You won't need your gators but you might think about bringing another pair of shoes to throw on after the hike. Also, there are a lot of mosquitoes in the basin and around the lake right now so campers bring some spray!

I've done Cameron a couple of times now and each time it is extremely windy up there. No weather that day (Saturday August 2) but the strong winds made it cool enough for a wind breaker and some light layers. The Bross descent is a bit tricky but when it opens up into the incredible valley of wild flowers and waterfalls you will be happy you attempted it.

Democrat needs a new time capsule sign in sheet if anyone is interested

A coworker of mine was out there last week and was told that due to some landowner issues they couldn't hike Democrat or Lincoln. Apparently that's not true if you hiked it today, but I'm heading out there in two weeks and plan to hike Lincoln and want to make sure it's accessible. Any info would be appreciated.

Access to Bross summit is CLOSED.     2011-08-10 06:13:29
Access to the summit of Bross is closed due to the landowner issues you referenced. Democrat, Cameron and Lincoln summits are still open, and you can skirt below the Bross summit on the west side back down to Kite Lake.

The 3 summits (DeCaLi) are open. Bross summit is closed. The ”circuit” trail skirts just below the Bross summit. Also it is worth noting that, according to the Forest Service signs at Kite Lake, any other trail in this area (South Bross, Lincoln from Montgomery)is also supposed to be off limits. Otherwise, the Kite Lake trail head is open so have fun, Ks!

Thanks fellow hikers!! I kind of figured the DeCaLi summits were open and it was just Bross that was closed. I hiked Democrat last summer and that was the case then and I hadn't seen anything different on the subject since. My coworker just didn't check into it deep enough.
