Mountain Tribbles and a beautiful hike.

We started out at about 4:30 in the morning from the Missouri Gulch trailhead. The trail up through the trees has seen alot of erosion since last year. Be careful on the loose rocks. The morning hike in the shade had our hands cold till we broke over the top ridge. The stream crossings were fine on the way up, but on the way down some of the logs were starting to get wet. Take your time and they will not be a problem. We were going to head onto Oxford, but my son got a severe headache from altitude sickness right after we summited Belford and I could almost see tears in his eyes. We slowly descended back down and by 13,500 he had the giggles and was counting his farts with great joy! Gotta love kids.

I got to see my favorite mutant looking flower, the Snowball Thistle, or as I like to call it the Mountain Tribble A great day for a hike, and we’ll be back to bag Oxford another day.

Mountain Tribbles? I love it!     07/25/2011 18:59
Congratulations to you and your son. Belford was my first 14er and holds a special place in my heart. That was also the first place I saw the ”Tribbles” got to love those alien looking plants...or are they plants? (insert theme from Twilight Zone)
