 Scenic Elbert

Our climb of Elbert via the Northeast Ridge was very straight forward, and less strenuous than I was expecting. We camped the night before and left the trailhead around 4:45 am. There was rain and a little snow as we started the hike, so we were not optimistic about being able to summit that morning.

Just after starting out the creek was running down the trail which convinced my wife that we were already off the trail. Not to worry we soon hit the CO Trail junction.

Being that this is such a well documented and straight forward climb I don't really have much to add except that the scenery was better than I expected. Here are a few of my pictures from the climb.

The view of Turqouse lake from timberline about 20 minutes after sunrise

A Purple Fringe growing in the middle of the trail. One of the many beautiful wildflowers we saw that day.

The views of Mt Massive were stunning the entire day. I couldn't stop looking (and taking pictures)

The false summit. So close yet it seems to take forever to reach.
