Bierstadt - 3 in car seats...

This isn't your typical step-by-step trip report of Mt. Bierstadt. We knew before we set the alarm clocks at home for 3:30 AM that our trip report would be different from any we had read before. We fully expected it to take at least twice as long as the typical hiker, and that was perfectly fine with us!

G'mornin' Bierstadt - 6:55 AM

We parked our XTerra with three kiddy car seats inside at 7:10 and headed for the trailhead. We are: Daddy, Mommy, "Nana" (6), "Bear" (5) and "A" (2 1/2). You'll know us when you see us! Our packs are heavy with tons of water, animal crackers, diapers, Band-Aids and kid's clif bars; and our kiddos sing and chatter while they hike!

We sloshed through some mud and got the whole crew over the stream without incident. We opted for the log "bridge" because the rock crossing to the left looked slick. Waterproof boots and wool socks were just the precaution we needed.

Mud! Glorious Mud!!

Hiking a 14er with little ones is full of special memories, but we have to thank anyone who was hiking July 2nd between 7 AM and 5 PM. The people we met and talked with were wonderful. To hear so many people encourage our children and tell them how proud and impressed they were was fantastic! To all the doggies that let our kids pet you... you made it special too! AND -a special congratulations to the couple that got engaged on the summit while we were up there! Yay! We were blessed to witness your unforgettable moment!

Our First Summit!

Our trek down was uneventful. The kids reminded us at least 100 times that we had promised them ice cream after we summited! We're grateful that the kids kept their hoodies on, because Daddy and Mommy's arms, despite sunblock, got toasty on the way back down.

We hope this trip report encourages you to go for the summit!
Happy Trails!
