 Awesome group hike

The team from work, including some tough interns, and a few family members (total of 16 people) made the trip. We did Rt. 3, West Ridge via Mt Spalding, starting at Summit Lake.

There was only small patches of snow on the route up Spalding, but easy to get through or around. The wind really kicked up at a few points and made it quite chilly, but the majority of the trip up was pretty calm. I wore layers, gloves and knit cap the whole time. A few times I got a little warm, but was comfortable all day.

I climbed from Guenella last sunday and stopped short of summit because of poor weather. Today was AMAZING. Perfectly blue skies all day.

There were tons of marmots on the drive up and a few on the trail. We must have seen 15 Mountain Goats throughout the day in all locations. On the walk down (we took the Mt Evans road down), we saw a few more goats and a pack/group/covey of Big Horn Sheep.

Truly amazing day. A much more direct and guided route than Guenella.

so the snow on the route is easy to avoid?

Yes. You can easily avoid it all together on this route or, if you can't, it is usually only about 10-15 feet wide and a slow, deliberate walk, digging in your heals or sides-o-foot, you can easily manage.

Have fun and good luck.
