I've had a Trip Report Alert out there for both the Matterhorn Creek TH and Wetterhorn trip reports and was happy to receive the alert on Monday for the Wetterhorn TR by pioletski. The road was open to the end, just the way I like it.
Date: 6/15/2011 Who: Me Trailhead: Matterhorn Creek Elevation Gain: 3,300' Ski Vertical: 2,300'
Class 3 rapids - be careful!
Upper east face
Gaining the southeast ridge
Above 13,200 on the standard route
Passing the Prow (left)
Top of the snow with view of summit
I started the ski at 8:00am and the snow was about as good as it was going to get. It was softening up but very sun-cupped.
Probably should have worn tooth protection
Smoothing out the snow
From sun-cupped to sun-cupped PLUS avy debris. Fun!
Not bad for June
The ski out was bumpy but fun
