Info: The directions say to turn right on "Forest Road". Please note that you should turn right (west) on Forest Road 535. There is also a sign here that says "Dunton". This intersection is about 5 miles past Lizard Head pass if you are coming from Telluride. | |

Info: Tried to get to Kilpacker Basin TH off of hwy. 145 via Lizard Head pass. Lots of snow in the trees. Stuck for 3-1/2 hrs. Lots of shoveling!!!! | |

Info: Agree 4WD not needed, however the first hill is steep by 2WD standards. Also until past that first hill the road is narrow enough that when vehicles meet, one stops at a good spot while the other slowly passes. The road surface is mostly in good maintained shape. There were a lot of horse trailers. | |

Info: This trailhead is by no means 4wd. My first time there was in a VW Jetta and the second in a Honda Civic. No problems either time. Didn‘t even have to drive all that slow. | |
