2008-05-19 Still snowed in at the highway. Room for a few cars and continuous snow from highway to summer TH. RoanMtnMan
2008-05-12 Drove by this on 5/11 heading towards the winter closure gate for another peaks. The parking area is still surrounded by snow banks and only room for about 3 cars. The dirt road that marks the start of the route was completely snowed in from what we could see. Chicago Transplant
2008-03-27 CO 82 is dry and clear to the La Plata Trailhead and beyond. The full width of the road isn‘t clear but cars can pass one another. There‘s room for 3-4 cars on one side of the road and a few more on the other side. markf
2007-11-25 The road past the town of Twin Lakes is packed powder with bare spots. The closer to the actual trailhead you drive, the road is completely plowed and packed powder. The trailhead itself has powder on the ground but nothing more than 3". Jeeps and 4x4 vehicles (or all wheel drive) can actually make it all the way in to the trailhead for McNasser Gulch. Kiefer
2007-06-10 Independence pass is open...that trailhead is open and same as the south winfield trailhead geol_climber
2007-04-29 Independence pass is still closed several miles further than the trail head. The parking lot and trailhead are very accessible and snow free. KirkT
2006-07-10 Open BillMiddlebrook
2005-07-18 Parking lot gets very crowded, show up early for a parking spot. Avoid the temptation to park down the dirt road, the land owners will complain. CO Native
2005-06-12 Trailhead is open and dry as of 6/11/05. No snow until near treeline. AzScott
2005-02-18 The Lake Creek (La Plata) TH is usually open year round. It is on the south side of Colorado 82 (Independence Pass). In winter, the pass road usually closes a bit higher. BillMiddlebrook
