| 2009-11-08 | The road is clear with a couple short icy sections to this trailhead as of 11/8/09. | centrifuge |
| 2009-08-15 | 8.6.09-8.9.09: Volkswagen Passat V6 bottomed out a few times going up/down the trailhead. This ultimately resulted in the car‘s oil pan leaking and left the car inoperable. We hitched a ride to town and went to the Lake City Automotive Center. The car was towed down to town, and then the car was towed to Gunnison for repair. Please heed caution if you are driving a low clearance vehicle. Trailhead was a gateway to beautiful, incredible hikes of Handies, Redcloud, and Sunshine. | cls721 |
| 2009-08-11 | Went up July 21 and 22: No snow at all, some eroded spots where only one car can pass through, with steep dropoffs less than a foot from the tire. I would not bring a long truck on the road. We had a stock Toyota Highlander and clearance was fine. Road is a bit precarious though in spots. | nyker |

| 2009-06-23 | I made it up 6/21 in my Ford Taurus, with no serious injury. I took it really slow, and there were a couple of miles that were a little sketchy (large rocks), but it‘s do-able, if not entirely enjoyable. | huelskbc |
| 2009-06-13 | Road is completely clear and easily passable by 2WD passenger cars. | goclimbamtn |
| 2009-05-07 | Road is clear of snow past the winter closure to the Silver creek/Grizzly Gulch trailhead. Possibly a few wet spots but nothing major. | shredthegnar10 |
| 2008-09-11 | On 9/4/08 the trailhead is in good condition. There are a couple of wet areas on the shelf road on the south side of Sunshine at about mile 13 or so, but nothing that requires 4WD. There are several rough spots that will require some careful negotiating in lower clearance vehicles. Trucks and high clearance vehicles will have not trouble at all. Take it slow on the shelf road especially!! Lots of sharp curves and there was a little tourist traffic on the road when we were there. | huffy13 |
| 2008-09-07 | There are trouble spots for low clearance vehicles like my Honda Civic and they are all located between miles 15.3-15.8. I did see several low clearance vehicles at the TH (on 9/2 and 9/6) but I chose to walk the road which is flat. Also, there is a giant boulder that appears to be hanging about 200 feet above the road around mile 16.5 and can be viewed if walking out - scary to say the least. | Papillon |
| 2008-09-02 | Camped at the trailhead 8-29 thru 9-1. Road was easy and dry. Several 2wd cars made it. Did NOT have the fly/mosquito problem I read about earlier. | JohnK |
| 2008-08-23 | 8-18-08 -- Drove from Ouray to Silverton - Animas Forks - Cinnamon Pass - TH. Trail was easy in stock Jeep Grand Cherokee. I would expect Cinnamon Pass to be tougher going back up -- we left through Lake City. | acoustical1 |
| 2008-05-26 | Trailheads full dry and operational. Can also drive to the 2wd parking area of American Basin. | KirkT |
| 2008-05-15 | The gates have been unlocked and I drove up well past Burrows Park last week. There isn‘t nearly as much snow as I expected (at least to Burrows Park). | San Juan Ron |

| 2008-03-30 | I got to this TH easily last August (2007) in a two wheel drive Tacoma. It‘s rougher beyond this though. Getting into American Basic would probably require a 4X4. | Hobopoet |
| 2007-11-06 | Road is bone dry | SarahT |
| 2007-08-10 | I would not drive a car (or low clearance vehicle) on this road. The last two to three miles to the TH are rough and hectic when you have a convoy of Jeeps and ATV's on your rear. We drove a Jeep and we bounced all over. The road by the TH is in pretty good condition. There is plenty of parking at the TH. | robanar |
| 2007-05-30 | Ready for the summer. Passenger cars, it's hectic from about 14.5-15.5 miles from 149. | del_sur |
| 2007-05-19 | road is plowed and accessible to TH with restroom and parking | giarcd |
| 2006-10-01 | As of 09/29/06, road dry & clear all the way to the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch Trailhead. There was a pickup truck at the Trailhead whose occupants stated they had just come over Cinnamon Pass. They said they had no trouble and that there was very little snow on it. The sign on the road in stated the pass as Closed. | Yog |
| 2006-05-21 | dry to the trailhead | jcwhite |
| 2005-09-18 | Trailhead is open still and easy to access. I drove my VW Jetta there and had no trouble. Never scraped a rock. I did have to go slow several times, but not so much as to annoy me. | CO Native |
| 2005-05-15 | Road has been recently graded all the way to the trailhead. No snow. Easily passable by passenger cars. Bathroom in working order. Plenty of space for camping. | mouser |
