Great road until the winter closure area. Non-4x4 or AWD will want to park here. Heck, even if you have 4x4 or AWD you may want to park here. I kept going into the snow and made it a couple blocks' worth distance before the tracks ended and I parked behind a Durango who also couldn't have gone further. No room to turn around with all the snow so I backed the whole way out in reverse in the afternoon after returning from the hike.
The road is still very snowcovered past the winter closure and will be for a while so prepare to add all of the extra distance before heading over to the Shermanator (or friends).
