Was a beautiful day on Mt. Bierstadt. Around 30 degrees at the guanella pass trailhead at 6am. Windy and colder higher up. Snow and ice starts on the trail at around 13,000' and continuous to the summit. The snow was fine to walk on on the ascent, still in the shadow of the mountain. But on the descent after the sun started warming everything up it melted a bit and the trail became very slick. Was easier to hike down on the dry rocks than to chance the icy trail. Microspikes would be very useful but it's still possible without them. The sawtooth looked dry on the east side, a bit of snow on the west side.
