The Bierstadt trail was clear and dry. The ridge to Sawtooth had a few patches of snow on the cairn-marked trail, but it was easy to go around them. The descent through the gully was a bit wet and quite slippery in places, lots of loose gravel and rocks, even being careful I fell on my butt a few times. The final mile through the willows to connect with the original trail was very wet and muddy. It was impossible to avoid stepping in places where I sank into the muck past the ankle, and difficult to tell where a foot would sink a few inches and where it would sink up to the calf. A beautiful hike though with many marmot and mountain goat sitings, definitely worth the mud at the end!
