Finally being able to access Bierstadt from I-70 is a welcome development.

Snowshoes are not needed on this peak, though one may encounter a bit of post-holing on the way down after the snow softens. The peak is very dry on the upper flanks, and though I saw some people carrying ice axes (as well as snowshoes), neither are needed. Great early summer conditions will be found.

Great. Thanks for the info. I plan to hike up there this weekend with friends and this will be my first 14er.

You'll have a good time. We started from the parking lot at 7 a.m. and were among the first ones up. Start then or earlier and you'll be in good shape.
