Still plenty of snow in the area. If you are planning an early start, I suggest bringing microspikes to aid in crossing frozen snow fields covering the road. They were pretty firm and icy this morning, which made for some sketchy crossing with no traction. Once on the NE Ridge, snow free until just before summit. Some postholing on the last 50 ft to summit of Castle Peak. Bring gaitors to keep snow out of your boots. Postholed a bit on the descent as well.

Traverse to Conundrum completely dry. Glissade from the saddle is amazing!

Is there still climbable snow in Castle couloir? I heard it was melting fast.

I have a photo that looks like the color is still in but the snow is softening up very early in the morning elsewhere in the basin. Very wet and slushy.

I only drove my vehicle about a mile up the dirt road. Mainly because it's leased and I knew the creek crossing wasn't much further anyway. I definitely wasn't going to cross the creek since it's pretty high right now. BUT we did see a Jeep after the creek crossing. I think if you have the right vehicle and the cajones for it, you can make it pretty far before you hit snow (after the Pearl Pass Road junction).
