The trail is very well packed to the Tanglewood/Rosalie Trail split. Near sunrise or set, when the trail's iced up a little, snowshoes aren't required. After the split, the trail is fairly packed and well defined. A 'shoer who's done this trip around 8 times did the route finding and I followed about an hour after him. So, its only been packed down 4 times, but its still well defined. (There are two places where one could get confused, but in both case take the left option.) Getting near the tree line, the snow is not favorable. His trail is not the summer trail (only pass one carin), but it gets the job done and goes to the saddle of Rosalie and the Pegmatite Points. From there, up the east ridge of Rosalie. Since there was an early road closure, I wasn't able to make it to the peak, but I did start my GPS tracking, so the map below may help.

Note: Rosalie trail goes south of Bandit Peak, not up to Rosalie.

My buddy and I were up the same trail on Saturday and busted the trench until it ran out and then pushed quite a ways further through knee deep snow until approaching darkness caused us to turn around. Don't know how we missed seeing you. It was a beautiful day up there!

Not sure how I missed you either--only saw one guy after the split, and I finished around 3 or 3:30. How far did you get? Where was the knee deep snow? May give Rosalie another try tomorrow (01/16/14).

We started about 9:30 from the lot and went up Tanglewood about 3/4 mile or so to the Rosalie cut off, took it left and followed it up thru the aspen forest and way beyond till we had full on views of Rosalie. Must have been 2.5 to 3 miles in. The trench was really drifted over in places but we followed those ribbons on the trees when we could see them. We turned around at 3pm at the first place we encountered the creek. The knee deep was up high where we turned around, still in the forest. We turned around a long way from the actual approach to Rosalie. Let me know if you try it again, I love that trail for shoeing.

vistaphil:

The route up Rosalie follows the Tanglewood trail to the saddle between the Pegmatite Points and Rosalie and then up the east ridge of Rosalie(not the Rosalie trail which goes south of Bandit Peak)

Thanks likewise...that explains a lot. Maybe a map will be in order next time. BTW...what's up with 2 goats, a marmot and a cow having a conversation?
