 Report

Drove to Lily Lake Upper TH 5/27. Road completely clear of snow and in good shape all the way to upper TH. Anything with decent clearance should make it. Lower portion of the route (all the way to the basin at 12,700') Is largely obscured by snow. Return trip included LOTS of postholing in 3-5 feet of snow. Creek is running high and nearly impossible to cross without getting wet (which I did while trying to cross on logs). Best to take your boots off and grin and bear it. Upper portion of the route was in pretty good shape. Snow still fills the upper gulley. Last 200 feet of the route was also pretty obscured by snow. Ice axe and micro spikes were extremely beneficial. First time on a 14er in which I didn't see a single person all day. The photos below show the final final approach and the magnificent views of Blanca and Ellingwood.

You should've seen what I had to do to get those shots

Uploaded those from my iPhone. No idea why they ended-up upside down. Probably technology fail on my part.

great beta. i'm heading up there this weekend and this is exactly what i needed to hear.

what do you think of my Honda Accord getting to the TH?

Not sure on the Accord     2013-05-31 16:23:21
The last 1.8 mile of the TH were pretty rough for an Accord (used to drive one). And the 3.4 miles before that were not pristine for a passenger car. If it were me, I would have felt fine until the final 1.8 miles. From there it would be take it slow and it would depend on your tolerance for the Accord getting bounced around and possibly bottoming out. There were a couple of spots in particular that that had pretty deep puddles of melt water.

for the record     2013-05-31 16:35:16
I was driving a 2013 Durango. I didn't hit anything that concerned me at all with that clearance.

I was up there just 2 weeks before this and it's amazing how much snow has melted, but seems down low is still post-hole hell, which is certainly was for us too. Thanks for the update, I need to get back down there and try again.
