MN Highpoint for TM

Post by Iguru »

Eagle Mountain MN.
July 2, 2007

I feel honored to have summited Eagle Mountain (MN Highpoint) accompanied by the Spirit of Talus Monkey.
The journey begins at the North Shore of Lake Superior.
This slab would be a bad place to stand if the wind was whipping the lake into a frenzy. You would be swept away.

The rugged shoreline of Lake Superior just 15 miles north of Duluth.

The rivers were flowing beer in honor of Talus Monkey.

This is where HWY 61 crosses the Cascade River at the big lake.

Many people spend countless hours combing the shoreline in hopes of finding the elusive Lake Superior Agate.(MN state gemstone)

This one I found a little closer to home. (Elk River MN in a gravel pit.)

Now on to the mountain.
This is a view of Eagle Mountain across Whale Lake.

Near the summit, scenic vista of the BWCAW.

The wind carried off my little placard just seconds after the last photo.
I took this to mean that the spirit of Talus Monkey rode the wind over the unspoiled Minnesota wilderness.

They have to be uploaded to web server. Bill allows photos to be uploaded for forum posts (I can't remember the link) or you can email them to me and I'll host them, and then you can just link to them in this thread.

Thanks for the report, Iguru. My wife and I are making the journey to Eagle in a couple weeks. Were the mosquitoes pretty bad? I have heard this hike is notorious for them.

The mosquitoes were not too bad as long as I kept moving. I expected to encounter ticks, but not a one did I find.

Wow I had no clue that's where the Minnesota HP was. Last summer I summited the mirror mountain across the lake in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in Silver Mountain which seems very similar (was 1,300 ft, and I went to Michigan Tech)
