As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM

Had some pretty cool sunrise clouds yesterday on the SE Butt route of Hiamovi Tower.
Make wilderness less accessible.

Re: Clouds + Mountains
En Route to Trail 401:
After sleeping in at the Boulderfield:
Broody Mt. Baker from Orca Island:
I am unable to walk away from the mountain without climbing it. An unclimbed mountain tugs at my consciousness with the eternal weight of time itself. Until I've pressed my face into it's alpine winds, hugged it's ancient granite walls, and put it's weathered summit beneath my heal I'm unable to resist it's attraction.Knowing nature gives the mountain more time than she gives us adds urgency to the obsession. As has been said before; the mountain doesn't care.
It can wait forever. I cannot.

Re: Clouds + Mountains
Descending from Monarch Crest above Salida:
Mt. Olympus from the San Juan Islands.
Flying over the San Juan Mountains. Any guesses where?

Re: Clouds + Mountains
Regarding tlongpine's Picture 3 (San Juans): due to lack of roads and other man-made features I will speculate somewhere over the La Garita Range east of Highway 149.
I've flown many times PHX to DEN and have viewed similar views with clouds. Assume a similar flight path was followed here.

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatever state I am, therewith to be content - Paul the Apostle.
Like it or not, I am a slow driver. Putt ... putt ... putt ...
Good day.

Re: Clouds + Mountains
I had originally thought maybe SW of 149 and west of 160. East of 149 would seem inconsistent for a flight pattern from Las Vegas to Wichita that kept us significantly south of the Sand Dunes - but I could be wrong.Mark A Steiner wrote:Regarding tlongpine's Picture 3 (San Juans): due to lack of roads and other man-made features I will speculate somewhere over the La Garita Range east of Highway 149.

Two additional context clues to consider: the large massif poking through the clouds at the top - maybe a recognizable 13er, and the red wall center right.
