Thanks Peter, I'd figure I could take the thermal bottoms to take off some of the windchill off the legs. It seems silly though if you start roasting when there is no wind. ill just have to find her a trail running wind block/ softshell/rain/wind pant instead.

Max my gear set up is similar to yours with the addition of sports wrap/tape and needle and thread.

If I'm moving at more of a hiking pace I usually wear a long sleeve shirt and pants made of lightweight synthetic material. If I'm planning on moving at more of a jogging pace I wear a lightweight long sleeve smartwool t-shirt and a pair of jogging shorts. Then I always have my 3L rain jacket and pants, wool beanie, and fleece gloves in my pack.
Where ever you are... There you are.

Merc1980 wrote:Hi all, because of my schedule I've been forced to delay my first 14er to mid August. I am planning on doing either grays/Torrey or Mt. Bierdstat with my wife. I know it's a little late in the summer season so I'm looking for some advice on what clothing to bring on this hike. Yes I've read the gear list but I know the mountains around that time can be anywhere from freezing to hot. So far I've put together a list of what I want to bring but being that I've never done an August hike above 12,000 ft so I don't want to be under prepared. This is what I plan on bringing, could you guys please advise if I should bring any more or less. (Note that this is just clothing).
Sunglasses/hat/beanie/gloves
Long sleeve mid weight powerdry thermal top
Mid weight Fleece jacket
Wind jacket
Waterproof rain jacket
Synthetic undies
Mid weight powerdry thermal bottoms
Synthetic sports pants
Wool sox
Trail running shoes

I have also considered a wind/rain pant and maybe a light synthetic insulation layer, but I think that I won't need them.
My wife will have a similar setup to mine. I generally run hot when actively hiking and my wife less so. So any advice on what I should add/remove would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you're going to be hot if its a good weather day, if it's sunny and calm it can be in the 70s on top of a 14er and feel even warmer and it can really get hot as you descend and it gets later in the day. I always make sure I most of the warm stuff you me but I also bring shorts and a synthetic T-shirt so I don't turn into a sweaty mess either.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I go Cotton.
Socks, breifs, shorts, shirt.
Add a Seattle Sombrero.
Good foot wear.
Rain gear in the pack.
It's August for God's sake.
No need to overthink this.

Pretty much what you'd wear going to the beach...minus the flip flops.

Bikini, sunglasses, floppy hat, and a really fun, chiffon coverup. Don't forget a cute getaway bag for gear!

Actually the beach in Cambria CA this past June
had worse weather than last weeks 14er.
Flip Flops were optional.

August is when I break out my barrel with straps. Great weather for that. Plus if you fall off a mountain, its so easy to just tuck and roll. Underwear not needed.

I go light in the summer:
tshirt, rain jacket
compression shorts, shorts, rain pants
baseball hat, sunglasses, hat/thin gloves, wool socks, hiking shoes/trail runners
Some rise, some fall, some climb to get to terrapin
