Comet Pan-Starrs timelapse video, 3/13/13

Postby FFLpilot » Thu Mar 14, 2013 8:13 pm

Well, I'll be honest and say that I had to run from Colorado to escape the poor skies we've had lately, and Tuesday the mid-level clouds chased me southbound down Highway 285, all the way to New Mexico. I'd first intended on Loveland Pass, then had to plan for Wilkerson Pass, then as I drove Gardner became more likely, but I couldn't escape the clouds!

Last night's viewing was pretty great, with fairly clear air and a string of clouds to give some perspective to the comet Pan-STARRS, currently on the western horizon at sunset. If you'd like to see the time-lapse video, check it out here:

Here's one grab from it, and get out and enjoy the show while you can:

Sweet. It looks like the comet is moving, not the earth turning. Pretty cool. Thanks for posting.

The still shot with the new moon and comet together is stunning. Thanks!

Very nifty. Kudos for being so persistent as to go all the way south to NM! We had a decent naked-eye view near Albuquerque Tuesday night, but a little magnification always helps.
I have been to the mountaintop, and I have seen the force
and the power that animates the universe. That may not
match up with your anthropomorphic or teleological idea of
what "god" is, but it's good enough for me.

Saw it briefly at 8:09 PM yesterday. Today...nothing but clouds.

Nice pictures.
