I used low range for extremely steep grades and hill-descent control feature on my Jeep. All i had to do was steer and the Jeep crawled very slow and occasionally I had to shift from 1st gear to 2nd since the crawl was very slow.

I think with a good ground clearance, most 4wd or AWD vehicles can do Engineer Pass, but for Mineral Creek, you must use 4-Lo. Here is a section on Mineral Creek I did in my 2012 JGC. At about 30 secs in the video, the rock hits the skid plate. I was so glad I had installed the skid plates prior to this trip.

Yes, I have heard that the spur from Ouray up to the intersection for Engineer Pass and Cinnamon Pass is strictly difficult 4x4. Is this the same spur that includes Mineral Creek?

I have gleaned from reports that if you take the route from Silverton up to that intersection then one can do either Engineer or Cinnamon Pass from this point in a high clearance AWD.
