Russian Zorbing Accident

Something tells me that this won't be coming to a ski resort near you. This may be taken down by youtube.

Thought they were lucky at first just to stay on track to the bottom of the run. This thing could of veered off course from the start. and really one guy trying to halt the ball when it looked like it was very retrievable. Boneheaded at every stage.

The man who died had two young daughters.

Good grief.
I need more dehydrogenase.

Even with the NYT article... it's hard to believe. Is this a common occurrence on that run ? Maybe the video is deceiving but looking at that slope that's exactly what I assume would happen if I let a giant super ball go. wow.

Am I the only one who wondered what kind of record descent time you could set with one of these?
I'm sure with enough attempts there'd be someone left to tell us what it was like.

Not sure if I'll do more 14ers. The trip reports are too tiring.

Probably not. But you are the only one who decided to post those thoughts in a thread where someone died. Come on, bro.

Someone should test this out somewhere "safe", maybe like down 4 o'clock (top to bottom) at Breck? (i.e. NOT Russian and/nor unlicensed "attraction" operators) Set it up like bumper-bowling back in the day. For Science! \:D/

I've recently been contemplating why we won the cold war.
This video answered my question.
Thanks.

Think it'd be interesting how this Canadian design (go to 0:50) would fair if deployed by someone caught in an avalanche. Yes, the animators forgot gloves, but if vests can get some partly exposed, this might make it easier for full self-rescue (note it doesn't stay inflated like an unpunctured zorb would). http://www.examiner.com/article/inflatable-motorcycle-suit-proposed-for-crash-survival
