Found right size medium REI glove on La Plata Peak

Postby vdavidoff » Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:49 am

I know this post is kind of ridiculous. Just trying to be helpful.

I found a size medium right-hand REI glove on the La Plata Peak Northwest Ridge on Wed 2013-01-09. If it's yours I'll gladly drop it in the mail.

Are you sure someone didn't stash that one glove for the return trip?

What is the protocol for dealing with found items on the trail?

How do you know it was the "right size" did you try it on? ;)

I'd hate to see the wrong size.

Oh, it's right, alright. This glove is super sweet. It even appears to still have snot on the outside of the thumb. You know what I'm talkin' about.

I don't know what the normal protocol is but this didn't appear to be left behind on purpose, and that's the only reason I picked it up. If it had looked like it was purposely placed where it was, I would have left it. It was in the middle of the trail crumpled up like it fell out of somewhere it had been stuffed. There were no other cars at the trailhead when I started my hike, and none when I got back, and I never saw or heard anyone else, so I think it had been there for at least a day.

Yaaaa... not my glove but... can you tell us anything about the conditions? Trailhead, trail, snow, make the summit?.. etc. Sorry to hijack.

Edit: Sorry... Just realized you were the same person that wrote the conditions report.

Not sure if I'll do more 14ers. The trip reports are too tiring.

When I come across items on the trail like this, I generally leave them in situ, or place them up on a tree branch or cairn. I've dropped stuff on the way up and found it on the way down, glad no one picked it up and brought it home.

However, I know that isn't always effective, sometimes bringing it home and posting it is a better option. Perhaps a good rule of thumb is that if it looks like it was recent, then leave it, if it looks like it's been there for a few days, then bring it home?

Of course, if it fits and is some schweet schwag then all bets are off. :-"
