recommended winter trails

Postby wypatt » Sat Dec 15, 2012 6:32 pm

Looking for a good snowshoe trail to take my 6 month old lab on. Any good recommendations for day trips from Denver? We've got Evo Ascents and have posted many 14ers so don't fear the strenuous hikes, just something dog friendly!

I like RMNP alot. The CMC has a snowshoe trails book for the front range that is very useful. You can pick it up at REI.

Keep in mind that Rocky Mountain National Park doesn't allow dogs on any of their trails.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park has some good trails and dogs are allowed.

brainard lake area is really nice if you take the sourdough trail.

east portal trail is fun as well. You can head all the way up near heart lake and the divide or go up to arapahoe lakes/forest lakes

Peaceful valley/St. vrain road is another really good one

ski rd. near allenspark is good too
