I need some help from the 14ers community. I will be workinv on setting up an account for dereks family, but I want to hold some type of fund raising event but I have no idea where to start. Can anyone give me any ideas?

So sorry Ian for what you and Ed witnessed. Sorry for the others on the mountain too...I can't imagine....

First & foremost - R.I.P. Derek - your family & friends are in our prayers.
Kudos to the climbers immediately on scene & the tireless rescue/retrieval workers for limiting this to a single life lost.

I viewed North Maroon from the summit of Pyramid on Sept. 5th... trying to wrap my head around the route to the top. Knowing I'd had similar feelings viewing Pyramid's route from Castle/Conundrum... it was the next Elk I looked to tackle. After the news of this tragedy coupled with waking up to find the snowline near 11,000 in Snowmass - the decision was made: my Elk season is over.

All it takes is one wrong move to end it all - be careful up there everyone.

Reading about this horrible tragedy was downright chilling.

Very sad to see this. I didn't know him well, but I climbed and skied Little Italy with him and some of my climbing partners were good friends with him.
