Conditions on Kit Carson/Challenger Point?
Any information on the snow on Kit Carson/Challenger Point? We are planning on doing the class 4 North Ridge on Kit Carson this weekend, so any snow information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Sam

No beta for ya but be careful.
Early storms like this don't usually deposit much snow. But things ice up and form a nice patina of veriglas quickly
with conditions like this. Might be fine this weekend, but who knows.
That's gonna be a bad route with veriglas.

Just to state the obvious, it's north-facing, too, so it gets less sun.

Challenger's north slope gets significantly less sun though, even less than 13580 in the background there.

If you made it down this weekend, I would be grateful for a condition update myself - I am hoping to get down there monday or tuesday.

The hike on the weekend was good. The weather held up well and there were no clouds in the sky at all. The north slopes of both challenger point as well as Kit Carson have a few inches of snow. We did the North slope of Challenger point and the snow was a bit challenging. Nothing undoable though. There was some forecast of snow on Sunday night, so if you are planning to go, keep that in mind. With more snow, the route may get more difficult.
Here are a couple of pics showing Kit Carson and the challenger gully/route.

Good morning,
Has anyone set eyes on Kit Carson and/or Challenger Point after the storms that rolled through Colorado yesterday and early this morning?
Any new snow and how much would be wonderful information.
Have a great day.

There was a little bit of snow yesterday. More is forecast over the next few days.

Thanks for the info. Do you suggest microspikes and hiking axe for the amount of snow?jdorje wrote:There was a little bit of snow yesterday. More is forecast over the next few days.
