Hope to lead a field trip into the Park mid-August. I know that's a while off, but holy cow, all these new fires are distressing.

Few pics. I haven't seen a helicopter for a while now, so I'm guessing they have some containment, but this is not confirmed.

I have a trip to Colorado planned for July but I'm rethinking it. I assume the monsoons haven't arrived yet, but when they do will they put an end to all this?

Don't let the fires deter you from coming to Colorado. There will still be things to do!

I'm a bit afraid of being trapped somewhere while backpacking or hiking. I'm also wondering if they will go to the Stage 3 fire restrictions, which will basically have me sitting in a city somewhere.

Hoping for thunderstorms...Mount Ida?? Crazy man.

What are Stage restrictions? Please elaborate...I am also ready to travel in next week and have similar concerns.

Stage 1 = no campfires except in campgrounds, mostly
Stage 2 = no fires of any kind, other restrictions on smoking, chainsaws, ...
Stage 3 = no public access to the forest (except for driving through on roads)

The Hayman fire led to Stage 3 restrictions on Pike San Isabel NF for about a month in the summer of 2002. I'm starting to worry that we'll be getting that again soon.

As for worries of getting trapped while camping, it's pretty unlikely. Even the Hayman fire only moved at walking speed.

Perhaps Tropical Storm Debbie will toss a wing up the mountains next week.
Many of the mountain monsoon rains are either tail-ends of Gulf or Pacific tropical storms.

Can you give me a reasonable estimate of your worries regarding closing of RMNP? I am signed up for a rock climbing class, which is to execute in the park, next week. And, many thanks for the info on the stage restrictions. It looks like New Mexico has put Carson National Forest on stage 3.

Noted: Just read on another tag line that Hwy 24 is closed. "Hwy 24 is now closed both ways. From 31st to Crystola."

The smoky haze is heavy in Boulder today due to this fire and the high park fire. From my apartment I can't see the Indian Peaks and even the foothills are hard to see.
