Just an interesting factoid.

Normally, apparently, they have 5-6 a year.

I'm headed there for 10 days in a couple weeks. Spend at least a week there every year. About 4 years ago, the wife and I heard someone screaming as they went over Nevada Falls into the Merced. We didn't know it at the time. But got to the end of the trail and there were a gaggle of rangers taking people's names and statements of what they heard/saw.

It's an average of 5-6 THROUGH July according to the linked article. I always remembered hearing the average was ~10 by the end of the year.

14er deaths have been increasing past two years.
But that may just be a statistical fluctuation and no systematic cause.
11 in 2010 and 7 so far in 2011.
