A very naive question.

Based upon the topo map provided by the Spot website. How come people do not climb the Northern and Eastern aspects of Everest? Is it Avalanche nightmare? The slope angle looks much less severe, which had me wondering...

Very cool to watch this from the website. Wishing (and praying) the best for Alan and his group.

People do climb from the north on a ridge. I'm guessing they don't climb on the slope you are looking at because of avalanche danger.

Looks like they may be at the Hillary Step.

Thanks! That is kind of what I figured.

Looks like he just summited?

Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

I think there may have been a glitch with his SPOT. But looks like he summitted around 5:20p MT!

Awesome Alan and congratulations! You are a true testament to NEVER give up on a goal or a dream!

I hope you and your group descend safely! And congratulations to Kami for summitting and safely assisting you through this climb!

Will adamantly watch your descent as well. Hope the spot remains on.
