Climber Falls 80 Feet - RIP

Post by Kojones »

Climbing partner: "Is this uphill the whole way?"
Kojones: "No, only half the hike is uphill."

Awful news. Very sorry to hear it. Was just climbing on Redgarden Wall day before yesterday. At first I assumed it had to be someone free soloing, to take an 80 foot fall, but to have a couple pieces pull and then your rope break, just terrible that equipment failure may have resulted in a fatality.

Horrible. But is there additional info out there on what exactly failed? I'm sure there will be if not now, but where does it indicate a rope failure?

My comment re rope failure came from someone who witnessed the accident. It was posted in a thread on Mountain Project. Certainly if this is in fact true there will be an extensive investigation into rope age, use, wear, terrain, etc.

Very sorry to hear this.
I hope that more details will come out, if anyone knows the details please post them. We can only learn from other's mistakes with complete information. Anyone know which pitch this climber fell from?

Always sad to hear of a climber's death. Still: he died doing what he loved, and that is so much better than so many other things that could happen. Condolences to all friends and family.
I have been to the mountaintop, and I have seen the force
and the power that animates the universe. That may not
match up with your anthropomorphic or teleological idea of
what "god" is, but it's good enough for me.
